Mile marker 13 on U.S. 163 |
This is part three of my ride across the USA. I had visited Monument Valley by car but I really wanted to get a photo of my motorcycle at the park or on the famous U.S. 163 now known as “Forrest Gump Point".
I think I got what I was looking for, no bike on the road but me sitting right on the middle of the road with Monument Valley as a background, I couldn’t have asked for a better photo for my Facebook page.Forrest Gump had run for three years, two months, 14 days, and 16 hours when he reached the hill that looks toward Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, now known as “Forrest Gump Point”. Realization struck around mile marker 13 on U.S. 163 when Forrest Gump stops and says, “I’m pretty tired. I think I’ll go home now.
I then continued all the way to Page and the famous Horseshoe Bend. I avoided two huge storms on the way, one barely missing me as I sped away at 80 mph trying to outrun the storm.
The place is famous for selfies and there were hundreds of people there but there’s enough space for everyone to enjoy a peaceful and beautiful sunset. I was able to get some great shots and met a nice group of Spanish people on vacation from Spain.
Even though it was pretty hot I managed to sleep like a baby. In the morning I quickly packed and left while everyone was still sleeping. Before getting to Las Vegas I still needed to see a few other places on my bucket list.
Part 4 coming up next……
