The Beginning

My motorcycle adventure started in the early eighties with a Yamaha XT250.

3800 Miles Across the USA – Part 5

After the horrendous previous day on the way to Las Vegas with the heat, I wake up to another torrid day with temperatures expected to be above 100.  I get up early and arrive at the Yamaha/Can Am Sea Doo of Las Vegas dealer where they quickly attended to me.  I picked up the two ordered reservoir seals, only needed one but wanted to carry a spare, and had their service department replace the previous leaking seal, which now was no longer leaking since Joe had worked on it just after Kansas.  I still went ahead with the replacement because I could no longer trust a seal that had been installed incorrectly.  With the problem fixed, I returned to the motel, one block away from the strip but on the wrong side of Las Vegas.  The motel was located on the west side of Interstate 15 not too far from the Luxor Hotel but unfortunately I either had to catch a taxi or walk.  Even though it was 100 already I walked because that’s why I have legs, to walk, beside I knew once I went over I15 and got inside the first casino, air conditioner would cool me down.

The first and closest casino was New York – New York and that’s where I started.  I basically had a good breakfast at the first place and then just walked the strip all day.  Here’s some of the photos I took.

New York – New York Hotel & Casino.  The restaurant area and food court with the roller coast that goes right through the casino are probably the best things about this hotel.  It looks like you are really strolling through a New York neighborhood.

The Bellagio Hotel and Casino, inspired by the Lake Como town of Bellagio in Italy, is one of the most luxurious and beautiful casinos.  The main features are the stunning  8-acre (3.2 ha) lake between the building and the Strip, which houses the Fountains of Bellagio, a large dancing water fountain synchronized to music and the Conservatory & Botanical Gardens with an atrium featuring a vibrant and seasonal scenes composed of plants, flowers & trees.  It might look like there was no one there but believe me, the place was packed, I’m sneaky and managed to get good photos without people on them.

The fountain dancing with the synchronized music is simply stunning.

The Bellagio lobby by Dale Chihuly’s, Fiori di Como is composed of over 2,000 hand-blown glass flowers covering the lobby ceiling.

Next I entered Caesars Palace known for its giant statues and the huge shopping galleries.

Next I crossed the street and entered the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino known for its canals and gondolas.   The Venetian resort complex together with the adjacent Sands Expo Convention Center and The Palazzo Hotel is the world’s second-largest hotel, with 4,049 rooms, 3,068 suites ranging in price from $169 to $10,000 per night.  The Venetian Macao is now the largest casino in the world, beating The Venetian, Las Vegas.

I walked around all day quickly jumping from casino to casino trying to avoid the heat outside.  Later in the day I went into the Paris Casino, its main feature being the half scale, 540-foot (164.6 m) tall replica of the Eiffel Tower.  I stayed at this casino a few years ago and at that time it was about to go into a total remodel.  When I was there it felt dated,  people just don’t take care of anything and damage everything.  It looks better now but I really didn’t go up into the room area.

The number one reason I had put Las Vegas on my route was to get a photo of either me alone or if possible with the motorcycle in front of the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign.  I arrived early at the location because I knew the place is usually mobbed with tourists.  There were two couples there and one of them took my photo and then I took theirs.  I’m happy now that I managed to get the motorcycle on the picture too even though you are not supposed to be riding on the passage to the sign.

Before reaching San Diego there’s still a few more places to visit so I will leave that to another post.

To be continued…..
