I left El Requeson and continued south hugging the coastline until the road moved inland and then made my first stop for a proper breakfast in Loreto. I found a beautiful hotel in front of the boardwalk and soon I was having a good cup of coffee and a proper American breakfast
I found Loreto to be a beautiful little town with very clean streets, beautiful homes and a nice boardwalk running along the entire front part of the city facing the Sea of Cortez
I even found an old buddy but he wasn’t very talkative
After Loreto the road follows the coastline for a while and then moves inland after Ligui. This stretch of road offers beautiful views of the Sea of Cortez
After Ligui the road goes almost across to the western coast until you reach Ciudad Insurgentes, I continued south on route 1 passing Ciudad ConstituciĆ³n and Villa Morelos. After Morelos there’s about 120 miles until La Paz with pretty much nothing along the way
I arrive in La Paz and ride along the main road past the waterfront until the end then turn around and head to my previously booked hotel
Later I return to the boardwalk area and, after walking around enjoying the waterfront, found a nice place for dinner at the Bismark-Cito
In La Paz I had to find the ferry company to cross over to mainland. After a quick Google search I rode my bike to the office downtown and using Google Translator was able to explain what I needed and purchased a ferry ticket. There was only one issue and it was a major one that I even kept from my wife. My original route had me going from La Paz to Mazatlan unfortunately I was informed the ferry to Mazatlan was broken and wouldn’t run until next year. My only choice was to take the ferry from La Paz to Topolobampo and then ride the 25 miles to Los Mochis. When I asked at what time the ferry would arrive in Topolobampo, I was told 9.30pm but probably wouldn’t get out of the ferry until 10.30. Arriving that late meant I would have to drive 25 miles at night into probably the worst town in Mexico for a gringo. Los Mochis is known as a very bad area and it’s in the middle of Sinaloa where the US government has put out warnings for Americans to stay out of it.
I had no other choice, I booked a hotel with an enclosed and safe parking for my motorcycle in Los Mochis and hoped for the best
